Beautiful ideas often bloom in unexpected places for us, it happened at a wedding. In 2018, my wife and I attended a joyful union between a friend from the Ivory Coast and her German partner. It was more than a celebration of love it was a vibrant fusion of cultures, filled with music, laughter, and unforgettable flavors.
For many German guests, it was their first taste of a traditional West African hibiscus drink — bright red, refreshing, and slightly tangy. For me, it was a nostalgic reminder of childhood celebrations, where this vibrant beverage was always part of the party.Watching everyone enjoy it felt like sharing a piece of home.
Something stirred in me that evening. The guests' joyful reactions unlocked memories of childhood celebrations , laughter, music, and the shared joy this hibiscus drink always brought. Smiling, I turned to her and said, half-joking: “What if we shared this with the world? We could call it Bisou like the French kiss. better : HISOU, a blend of hibiscus and bisou.”
She smiled and joked that our dog and his girlfriend could be our mascots. What started as playful fun turned into the start of something real. From a simple drink and a shared moment of connection, HISOU was born — a celebration of joy, wellness, and togetherness. In that moment, we felt the spark of a bigger idea — one rooted in love, culture, and creativity.
THE HISOU JOURNEY
2018: Where it all began
At our friends' wedding in Bassam, Ivory Coast: two cultures, a lavish celebration – and in the midst of it all, a drink that delighted everyone. Little did we know at the time that the first spark for a very special adventure was ignited right there.
2023: Ideas, sweat and lots of hibiscus
The first logo sketches: Every week we continued to tinker, improve, reject, laugh (sometimes in despair) always with valuable feedback from friends. And then: the recipe. Nights filled with cooking pots, smelling things, mini-explosions, and wild discussions about vanilla or mint?
2024: Bureaucracy, calls & small victories
After countless emails, forms, and waiting in queues, the moment had finally come: We found the bottling company that not only believed in our drink, but also that dreams can actually be bottled. The labels are here. The first HISOU accessories are in front of us. The dream becomes tangible – and with it, the emotions grow: somewhere between anticipation, stage fright, and the slight doubt as to whether we are really experiencing all of this.
2025: And suddenly it was there: HISOU!
Our baby is here – ready to be shared. What began with a smile and an idea is now becoming reality. And the adventure? It's just beginning.
